Inter-regional meeting

The meeting marked the first global convening on private sector engagement. Building on the WHO Strategy report “Engaging the Private Health Service Delivery Sector through Governance in Mixed Health Systems,” and the activities of the Country Connector, WHO launched the “Progression Pathway for the Governance of Mixed Health Systems” at this event.

The meeting also presented an opportunity for leveraging the role of the private health sector in EMRO’s flagship initiatives which aim to tackle the challenges facing the health workforce and the supply chain in the Region besides advancing private sector engagement in fragile and conflict affected settings (FCS).

The meeting spanned three days. Day one provided a situational analysis of the challenges facing the engagement of the private sector in health and features the role of the private health sector in different programmatic areas. Day two was dedicated to WHO technical products on the governance of mixed health systems as well as the role of the private health sector in health workforce strengthening. Finally, day three focused on purchasing arrangements with the private health sector and mobilizing private investments for primary healthcare.
